Commit to your network, seems obvious doesn’t it? Im amazed at the number of times people have spoken to me about the lack of referrals they get. However, when we go through their activity with their network, too many times we find they have failed to put any real effort in. They have been too busy trying to get clients for themselves and by themselves. This self focus results in a lack of attention to their network. Therefore they fall out of their networks focus so their network doesn’t give them any attention in return.
Anything of value in life will only be achieved with focus and effort. Consistent quality referrals are a process not an event. Below is a list of the key activities and considerations that should be done and taken into account consistently if you want to achieve quality referrals.
Ten ways to commit to your network
- Share your why and allow people to buy into you and what drives you. What difference are you (or your company) looking to make for your clients and why is this important to you?
- Have a clear focus on your target market clients and key referral partners. Who do you want to help and who else wants to help those clients?
- Find these people and build trusting relationships with them.
- Share points 1 and 2 with your key people in your network.
- Find out points 1, 2 and 3 for the key people in your network so you can help them too.
- Meet with them regularly either formally of informally to discuss each others businesses. What, if any changes have happened? Who are the businesses you would like to speak to this week? Who are they looking for? Regularly should mean at least fortnightly.
- How can you identify opportunities for each other?
- Share some quality questions you and your key network people can ask to get appointments each other for the people you want to meet.
- Educate each other on how to overcome objections when you have the opportunity to refer each other.
- Celebrate your successes!
By doing these ten steps as a minimum this will get you more of a return from your network. Remember your return is equivalent to your investment. If you want more from your network you have to give more.
As Zig Ziglar said “You can have everything in the World that you want, as long as you help enough people get what they want.”
